College/Career Guidance
College and Career Planning at SPCS occurs throughout the student’s high school academic career, with a specific focus during the student's junior year with a course entitled College/Career Planning and Life Skills.​
With the assistance of our instructors, guidance counselor and administration, we seek to provide opportunities for students to:

Set individual goals (spiritual, academic, athletic, etc.)
​

Take interest inventories to identify strengths that may benefit them in future occupations
​

Record yearly grades, honors, extracurricular activities, community service, standardized test scores, etc.
​

Write a personal testimony / biography / life vision
​

Prepare and practice for the PSAT (Grades 8-11), SAT (offered on our campus to students in grades 11-12) and ACT and then take these tests to demonstrate their knowledge and understanding
​

Research college entrance requirements, scholarships, etc. and submit applications for those of interest or for which the student qualifies

Visit college campuses for tours, information sessions, etc. in grades 11 and 12 [Please secure a College Visit Checklist from the guidance counselor prior to the campus visit to ensure the absence is excused, if it occurs within the time parameters of a typical school day]

Research skill sets, requirements for, demand for, salary and facts about particular occupations
​

View occupation applications, understand reference letters and contact information, practice occupational interviews, hear from various employers and college representatives concerning majors, job market projections, interview skills, etc.

Complete a college and career portfolio and project during their high school careers
